CaptainAd, Sum41, Machinima & Manga

If ever there was a convoluted set of topics to post on it’s this. I am having lunch with Max Moldenhauer in 5 and wanted to try out his new service, CaptainAd. CaptainAd overlays videos with advertising by ways of a simple script on a web page, allowing a publisher to make money off videos hosted on sites like DailyMotion and YouTube. CaptainAd then offers a marketplace where advertisers can bid CPC on categories/sites while CaptainAd pays publishers in CPM - a gamble on margins that seems to be paying off. CaptainAd is experimenting with different ad formats and business models. From what I’ve heard the initial take-up of the service is very good.

Much of CaptainAd’s PR harkens back to Captain Iglo and I was going to use a Captain Iglo vid from Belgium (hi Fred!) to try out the CaptainAd service. But then I listened to Sum41’s Chuck (from like 2004 - I am growing old) on the way to the Atlas Munich office and looked for videos of that song. What I found is a manga + machinima piece of wondrous UGC content that really fits the music. And I’ve just gotta post stuff like that because I wholeheartedly support it.

Also uses the new DailyMotion player.
