Metalcore, somewhere between Screamo and Hardcore Punk

I wanted to write about something that happened to me in the last three months which I had never though possible. While I was always a bit of a metalhead having grown up with Floyd and Zeppelin, I always had a deep disdain for speed, progressive, thrash and whatever other metal that incorporated a fair bit of screaming. That is, until I came across Bullet for My Valentine.

Admittedly dreadfully named, BFMV is a four-piece band from Bridgend, South Wales. Formed in 2003, they originally played Metallica and Nirvana covers, but have since progressed into “metalcore.” Metalcore is a metal fusion genre, combining elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. At this point most definitions lose their way, expounding things about crossover thrash and post-hardcore punk. What does that exactly sound like?? :)

I’ve posted an MP3 here (hidden in the Flash player so I assume it’s ok). Feel free to write me that I have completely and utterly lost my way in terms of musical taste. \m/
